I Loved It!!
I saw this show on it's last weekend in Boston. I am a fan of Dolly Parton and of Dickens' Christmas Carol. I thought it was very well written to fit a 1930's coal mining town. The set with all the moving parts transformed easily to portray the different scenes the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future took Scrooge to. Costumes changed easily as well. The band and actors were fabulous. Two highlights stand out for me. First was the inclusion of "Once Upon a Christmas" - one of my all time favorite songs performed by Dolly and Kenny Rogers. Second was the use of the very talented fiddle player as the silent ghost of Christmas future. The haunting notes set the perfect mood for this section. As the wife of a former Berklee College of Music instructor and a professional musician, I have been to many Broadway, community and school productions. This musical meets the mark in portraying this classic story in an Appalachian setting.
Great show to get in Christmas spirit
Saw the show with wife and two teenage kids. We all loved it. Music and acting is excellent. It is hard to find entertainment that is not cynical and dark these days. This is a great show to get you in the Christmas spirit. Go see it.
Christmas Spirit(s)!
Beautiful music, energetic choreography, solid acting (Scrooge showed incredible energy), and a warm, relatable storyline contributed to making the play a holiday memory we’ll treasure. The appearance by Dolly Parton was icing on the cake!
A Holiday Treat for All Ages
Librettist Brad H. Bell and legendary songwriter Dolly Parton have managed to create a fresh, Americanized take on the Dickens classic that is heartwarming, witty and sure to melt any curmudgeon's heart. The opening night audience was up on its feet at cutain's close, and rightfully so. This is the perfect holiday treat for all ages.
Couldn't hear a thing
The sound reinforcement was absolutely horrible. Dialogue was incoherent. Who was in charge of sound?
Amaturish
Poor mics even after 2 weeks of production. The cast is talented but they end up playing too many characters. The songs were often difficult to hear but the band was amazing. This show just didn't hit the mark and felt more like community theater.
